this makes me want to ride it more and smile more just to make up for the evil

Just when I start taking (and not minding) the skytrain, a friend who clearly wants to crush all my dreams finds this on the internet:

110%, No Fakies, Full On Facts.
November 12, 2009 – 6:50 am
Below is a chart based on actual stats.
Some other Facts:
- Stabbings mostly occur on days that end with “Y”.

- Never wear anything legit on the Sky Train, such as Reebok Pumps. That is a sure fire way to get stabbed.
- The sky train’s first and 3rd official motto is, “Stab first, ask later”
- The engineers building the sky train knew that stabbing could be an issue, so they made the sky train stab proof. That is why it is metal.
- Immortal Technique has been stabbed twice on BC’s Sky Train, but both times were mistakes.

Wait a minute....Immortal Technique!? Fact: Immortal Technique isn't allowed into Canada. Fact. Yay for paying attention.

Random Vancouver Facts You Need To Know (#1)

This is a new segment cuz I think we should all get to know as many random Vancouver facts as possible before the Olympics come to town. They'll be your winning strategy when trying to pick up hot tourists at the cluuuuuuubs. Stay tuned for more...until then, get memorizing!

Fact #1:

On April 25, 1876, the first white child born in West Vancouver was named James Atkinson Woodward and he was the son of Edwin Woodward, the first lighthouse keeper at the present day Point Atkinson Lighthouse....

a zombie originally from France?

Her skin is white cloth,
and she's all sewn apart
and she has many colored pins
sticking out of her heart.

She has many different zombies
who are deeply in her trance.
She even has a zombie
who was originally from France.

But she knows she has a curse on her,
a curse she cannot win.
For if someone gets
too close to her,

the pins stick farther in.

tribes, beers and go fish

Kids Hot Chocolate first turned into Kids On Chocolate (thanks esl) then turned into Kins On Chocolate which may or not become the newest band on the streets....maybe after another pow pow? Either way, the thought of starting a band alone pumped us all up pretty good.
In other music news, there are a few bands/shows we think you should check out:

1) Girls (
http://www.myspace.com/girls) are awesome but lame cuz they're skipping Vancouver on their tour. Side note: a few of their tracks channel the 50s.

2) The Shiny Diamonds (
http://www.myspace.com/theshinydiamonds) are local. Enough said. Should be coming out with an album soon? Stay tumed...

3) Passion Pit (http://www.myspace.com/passionpitjams) was supposed to play on October 10th but cancelled. New date is December 8th.

4) Others you should check out:
Humans (Vancouver) on October 27th (
http://www.myspace.com/dashumans),
Local Natives (Cali) on November 6th (
http://www.myspace.com/localnatives),
Land of Talk (Montreal) on November 7th (

button happy

We're always looking for fun ways of adding buttons to our everyday getups, but lately, it's been kind of a challenge. This is mostly due to the button button store being closed. Instead, the internet was scanned for inspiration and to our surprise, these adorable sweaters popped up and put smiles back on our faces. So coolio.

russia vs. south park

Holy Jeboli! Russia's on our ass!

Turns out Russians are too sensitive and can't handle South Park's humour and grossness. Hey, we hear ya Russia, we still loose our appetites when we think back to the episode of the gay teacher and the hamster in class with Mr. Slave. Seriously, soooo gross.

thanks for the laugh FashionIndie

[Think the next counterfeit designer item is the new Louis Vuitton bag? Think again. The new counterfeit obsession, among us, is now blue jeans. Of the highly imported are True Religion, Joe’s Jeans and Antik Denim. Intercepting a whopping $18 million worth of apparel, customs officials have made it clear that the counterfeit items are rising in numbers from year to year.
“The counterfeiting problem exists with Rolex watches and high-end jeans because people want the cachet without spending the money” says a property protection attorney from Chicago. People no longer want to stroll through central park with their knock-off rolex and peeling logo on a faux Prada purse. Jeans are carrying the weight of this side of the market. It truly is a substantial undertaking, and a surprising one at that.]

You guys have nothing on the Iranians and their counterfeit sim cards.

craft of the week: september 8th, 2008

Hiiiiii! Craft of the Week is back! Cooool!
This is a top purchased a while ago. It was brought home, shortened, had chunks cut out of it and filled with lace then put on and was showed around town in true 100% linen style.

for the house wife in you...who me? yes you. couldn't be. then who?

This is a pound cake recipe that we're into. If you end up making it and then you find yourself offering a slice to someone, we suggest you punch them in the arm as you ask, "do you want to try some of my POUND cake?"...in the similar style of sighting a punch buggy. Violence plus cake...mmmm...delicious. Ps, this recipe is from this show we check out from time to time on the Food Network called SUGAR.

Ingredients:
Cake Part
3/4 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp finely grated lemon zest
2 large eggs room temperature
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp fine salt
1/2 cup full-fat sour cream...(try substituting yogurt or cottage cheese for this part if you're not feeling the sour cream)

Topping Part
2 tbsp light brown sugar, packed
1 1/2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 1/2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Directions:
Cake Part
1) Preheat oven to 325 °F. Grease an 8 ½ by 4 ½ inch loaf pan and dust lightly with flour, tapping out excess.
2) Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla and lemon zest and add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. In a separate bowl, sift flour, cinnamon, baking soda and salt. Add half of the flour to the butter mixture, blending gently to incorporate. Stir in sour cream, then blend in remaining flour. Scrape batter into prepared pan.

Topping Part
1) For topping, combine all ingredients to blend and sprinkle on top of cake. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, until a tester inserted of the canter of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool for 20 minutes before turning out to cool completely

waaaaay nicer than craigslist

There's a pretty cool website out there that lets you get your hands on the coolest of the cool in retro furniture. Below are a few examples of what you can find on this thing. Prices are ok, we guess considering we have zero experience in buying furniture...lets just say if we were ever lucky enough to guess furniture prices on Price is Right, we'd definitely loose big time.

handsome boys...we mean furs. sorry, we spaced out.

We were pleasantly surprised when we caught the Handsome Furs open for !!! on Sunday night. Handsome furs is a duo: lead singer also plays for wolf parade and his bandmate's from some cool ass female planet of half shirts and plaid shorts. His voice was fun and familiar; her sound gave us more than we expected. Her beats were amazing and definitely helped to wake us up. All in all, great show opener. Their albums awesome. Pick it up for sure and then myspace them for fun.

Dearest Omid,

May all of your Christmas wishes come true.

finally, street furniture that's nice to look at.

Designer coffee, yes please. Designer bike racks, f yeah!

gastown happenings

are drive-in's still fun without someone to cuddle with?

Now there's a brainteaser...pretty sure we're totally lost on this one. And just when all hope feels lost...Hello Urban Republic and their Vancouver Stars as Itself at the Gastown Drive In! It's running through the month of September. Boo Sadly, we missed the first showing last night due to a fancy pants dinner party; a total shame cuz we're big fans of Hard Core Logo...it screams AREZOU! No biggie, we'll be at the next ones. For full info and specifics on the shows, check out http://www.urbanrepublic.ca/drive.htm and also, make sure to read up on what Urban Republic is up to in this beautiful City. They're super new and super cool...kinda like Gossip Girl? Whatever, we've been a little out of the loop. get over it.

would you wear this? WE WOULD!!!

new (to you and i) music

1) This guy is ridiculous (in a good way)! His shows are crazy entertaining. His outfits, molestable. His giant computer set up was like nothing we've ever seen. All in all, Idle Tigers put on a petite, yet awesome show that we were lucky enough to check out in Toronto. Myspace him and fall in love: http://www.myspace.com/idletigers

2) The opener for Idle Tigers was equally beautiful to watch. They go by Olenka & the Autumn Lovers. Their folky sound and their polish/van/london, ontaio background made us happy. Their soothing voice and great instruments (base, cello, violin, guitar, maracas, xylophone, etc.) plus the amazing (kissable) company made the night absolutely spectacular. This band is a must to check out and listen to till the end of time. http://www.myspace.com/olenkalovers
