What you need:
2L jug of milk (your choice of skim, 1%, 2%, homo)
1 large pot that can hold 2 L worth of milk
2 tablespoons of store bought regular plain yogurt
How you do it:
In a big pot, bring 2L of milk to a boil. Once milk comes to a boil, remove from heat and set aside till it cools to body temperature (37 degrees Celsius). When the boiled milk reaches body temp, mix 2 tablespoons of store bought yogurt with a few tablespoons of the cooled off milk (mixing the two together liquefies the store bought yogurt to a consistency of the milk). Slowly stir in the yogurt/milk mixture into your big pot of milk. Then, you can either pour the cooled off mixture in separate smaller containers or leave the mixture in the original pot, and cover with a big blanket to seal in its heat. The more still you keep the mixture during this step, the better. Set the blanketed pot aside on your kitchen counter overnight. In the morning, place it in your fridge for a few hours till it cools. Once it cools, get excited! You just made yogurt!
You don't have to use 2L's of milk, but it's what our moms use, so it's all we know. If it's your first time, we suggest you use 1L. Also, the yogurt can stay in your fridge for around 2 weeks. Cool, hey!? If you have trouble, leave us a comment and we'll try and help.
